Dean’s Visit and the Renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding Between the School of Pharmacy, Nihon University and the University of Portsmouth

With an invitation from the University of Portsmouth (UoP), Professor Shigeyasu Motohashi, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, with Professor Toshio Kaneko, chair of the International Exchanges Committee, visited for four days and two nights this past July in order to strengthen the bonds of friendship, joint research projects, and student exchanges between the two institutions.

On July 11th, Dean Motohashi and Professor Kaneko paid a courtesy visit to the Dean of the School of Science of UoP, Professor Sherria Hoskins, followed by a meeting with the Head of the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, Karen E. Ball, and other UoP staff involved with the Clinical Study Abroad Program.
During a three-week-long celebration throughout the city of Portsmouth, Dean Motohashi and Professor Kaneko also attended the graduation ceremony of the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences held on July 11th. After the over 90-minute-long ceremony, Dean Motohashi and Professor Kaneko were then led to a ballroom where a tea party was held with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth, Mr. Paul Hayes, as well as the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Mr. Chris Chang, members of the Board of Trustees, and honored graduates of the University of Portsmouth.

From the tea party, Dean Motohashi and Professor Kaneko then met Mr. Chris Chang, Head of Global Engagement and Education Partnerships, in his office to exchange memorial gifts, and to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the continued exchanges of faculty between Nihon University, School of Pharmacy (NUSP) and UoP as well as a Memorandum of Agreement for UoP students to visit NUSP. With these agreements, the partnership between the two institutions has been extended for five years from August 1st, 2019.

Also at UoP during this visit were Professor Shinba, Head of Research of NUSP and vice-chair of the International Exchanges Committee, and Assistant Professor Rie Nakajima, member of the International Exchanges Committee. They were there to help strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the two institutions.
During this short visit, Dr. Dariusz Gorécki (Head of Research at UoP) who had visited NUSP in 2018, was an amazing host who showed us great hospitality and helped make this visit a fruitful success, and for that we are thankful from the bottom of our hearts.
