Drug development for neurodegenerative diseases

The goal of our laboratory is to elucidate molecular and cellular mechanisms of neurodegeneration and to develop new medicines.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterized by progressive dysfunction and death of neurons that adversely affect specific neural systems, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), Huntington’s disease (HD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and spinal cerebellar ataxias. There are currently no effective drugs that significantly inhibit cell death associated with these diseases. We are investigating the molecular basis of neurodegenerative diseases using in vivo and in vitro models with a variety of techniques including neurochemistry, molecular biology, chemical biology and histology. We are carrying out to finding drugs for neurodegenerative disorders.
